Phil Potts is a successful optometrist turned men’s marriage coach and teacher. His passion was to make his marriage the best it could be and along the way, it became his business.
“I don’t need easy. I just need worth it.” – Cliff Ravenscraft, Phil’s coach
From Optometrist to Marriage Coach
Phil worked as an optometrist for more than two decades. It was ten years ago when he was asked to score his relationship with his wife. He realized it wasn’t going very well.
“I am so thrilled to be alongside others who want to move their marriage from wherever it is to where it could potentially be.” – Phil Potts
One time he had the privilege to work with Dan Miller. Dan helped him discover his passion in marriage. Phil himself wanted to work on his relationship with his wife.
Work in Relationship
Phil shares that excitement can wear off easily. It happens in any kind of relationship. Working on relationships just isn’t something that people typically put on top of their lists.
“Working on a relationship is much like training for a game. You know it’s worth it when you see the final score in your favor.” – Phil Potts
According to him, working on a marriage is not that fun. But, it’s worth it at the end. You are able to give to your partner and receive far more.
Knowing Your Marriage Score
Phil travels around to speak and coach on marriage. He also offers his help online. He shares that scoring a relationship provides a better picture of what’s happening.
“We look at a relationship as an untapped potential. If you are willing to put in a little work, you can move it to greater heights. That’s only room for greater joy and happiness.” – Phil Potts
He and wife don’t look at scoring as a pass or fail scheme. It is neither some form of criticism. It is a potential that’s just waiting.
