3 Productivity Tips to DAs Who Work with a Side Hustle
Here’s the thing—distant assistants tend to have a lot of other priorities outside of work. Especially for those who are just working part-time, they sometimes juggle in-between clients. They tend to take on too many tasks to the point that sometimes their projects overlap. Here are 3 productivity tips to DAs who work with a side hustle. Take some time to assess your situation and understand what you can do to be more productive!
1. Set Your Priorities Straight
Identify which things in your life are the most important. Take a pen and paper, and list down at least 5 major areas in your life that require your attention. Number them accordingly with 1 as the topmost important area in your life.
That most important area is what you make time for the most part of your day. To sort your priorities straight, you can ask yourself the following questions:
- Who or what deserves first place in my life?
- In which areas do I play huge roles or responsibilities?
- What is that one thing that I want to achieve?
In all these questions, your goal is to find that most important thing in your life and allow it to be the guiding star of your daily schedules.
“Once you have a clear picture of your priorities—that is values, goals, and high leverage activities—organize around them.” -Stephen Covey, Businessman
Who is that someone or something that you need to attend to the most?
It could be your family, career as a distant assistant, your dream life, education, relationship with a spouse, or it can be you. Take a step back and think how much time you are devoting to it.
Allow it to be the guiding star of your daily life, and everything else will pretty much fall into place. Life can turn into chaos if you fall behind those things that you consider important. And, you can easily get confused with what to do next.
That disorganized mindset usually leads to procrastination in work, exhaustion, or worse quitting from your distant assistant job.
When that happens, remember why you applied in the first place. Also, consider the effect and impact it could have on other areas of your life.
Nevertheless, it is never too late until you quit or lose your job. If you feel stressed and exhausted, take some time to relax and reflect on what has become. Many times it helps to take some time off and just see the world from a perspective.
That clears your mind and refuels you with energy to set the world ablaze with your life.
2. Schedule and Manage Your Time Wisely
Once you have identified your priorities and where they stand in your life, the next thing to do is to assess your responsibilities and schedule them accordingly. As much as possible, come up with a regular schedule that you can follow.
“When someone tells you they are too busy, it is not a reflection of their schedule; it is a reflection of your spot on their schedule.” -Steve Marboli, Behavioral Scientist
Where does your job as a distant assistant stand in your life?
Even with a side hustle, you can make time for it and do your best as you work. Like they say, there is no room for procrastination if you set your heart towards a goal.
Schedules exist to help you determine which tasks come in next. Some may argue that it is perfectly alright to have nothing to look forward to in a day. But whether you admit it or not, it often helps to have something to expect to complete.
Here are few things you can do to manage your time wisely:
- Before you start the day, spend at least 30 minutes to an hour in an exercise. A study shows that regular exercise helps you balance your life. It helps you think clearly and become more productive.
- Check your to-do list and do the first thing in your schedule.
- Be aware of what you are doing and avoid any form of distraction. That way, you get to finish each task on time or even earlier than you expected.
- At the end of the day, identify your achievements and create a new to-do list for the morrow. That will spare you time in the morning. Like they say, do that which you can do now.

3. Dream If You Don’t Have One
Needless to say, a dream inspires any individual to achieve even the most seemingly impossible things in life.
What is that one thing that inspires you to keep going in life?
“There’s a difference between interest and commitment. When you’re interested in doing something, you do it only when it’s convenient. When you’re committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results.” -Kenneth Blanchard, Management Expert
Anyone can go through life without having anything that inspires them. In our previous interview with Michelle Calma and other distant assistants, we learned how having a dream for a better life allows one to conquer challenges.
Life will never be without problems and difficulties. But when they do arrive to challenge the distant assistant, it is his dream that empowers him to do his best and continue with his job. What is even better is he abler and more prepared to deal with those that are yet to come.
That dream enables him to be committed to what he is doing. Even with a side hustle, he is able to complete his tasks because he is set to accomplish anything no matter the challenge.
No Stopping to Success
It is no secret that those who succeed do whatever it takes for them to be successful. When you think about those who have advanced in the industry, you will find that hard work and passion are both important factors at work.
How are you doing as a distant assistant? Even with a side hustle, you can still keep on living the life that you aspire. Be honest with your situation, and consider what you can do to be more productive.
