From War-Torn Syria to the United States with Rama Youssef | Live with Bottleneck
On this special episode of Live with Bottleneck, our guest Rama Youssef talks about surviving the war on Syria, and her journey to reaching the United States. Her story mirrors a lot of the people seeking help and hoping to live in peace.
Rama Youssef wrote a book about surviving war-torn Syria at the age of 12 to the USA and persevering without parents. Her goal is to share her knowledge on relationship building and how to overcome obstacles you encounter along the way.
So if you want to hear about Rama’s story, stay tuned to this episode.
Who is Rama Youssef?
Rama Youssef is an author, and at the same time a Political Science student at California Lutheran University. She is also a pre-law student, and hopes to enter law school in the next couple of years.
She enjoys cooking and is currently learning the piano off YouTube. All in all, Rama is currently enjoying her life to the fullest.
Representation of the Middle Eastern Women
As for the topic of her book, she is really excited that people are reading about it and learning about what is happening, as well as the culture she has expressed in it. According to Rama, there is little to no representation of the Middle Eastern women communities.
“I really wanted to be one of the first to make it happen for women like me.” – Rama Youssef
Rama’s book doesn’t just talk about fleeing the war. It also talks about the culture and traditions that she grew up in, and the things they weren’t able to achieve as they were somewhat restricted by some of said traditions.
Rama Youssef on Her Journey
Rama shares that she had a different time than a normal 12-year-old growing up.
As the war started ramping up in 2011, Rama and her mother found themselves moving to the US unexpectedly when they visited Rama’s sister. When they heard news of what was happening back home, Rama’s mother decided to have Rama stay in the US, rather than go back. though she herself went back to take care of family matters.
Though she was away from the war, Rama did not have a great experience living in the US at the time. Her sister had fallen into an abusive relationship, and it was clear that her sister’s partner did not welcome her there. So she found herself staying over with other families, almost like a foster child.
She did this because she wanted a safe space to grow in, which is what every child deserves growing up. For Rama, a child should never have to grow without love and support, and the war has essentially taken it from her, even as she is “safe” in another country.

Meet Jaime Jay – a man who wears many hats, and wears them all admirably. He’s a master connector, an entrepreneur extraordinaire, and a published author who knows how to get things done.
Before he found his way to the business world, Jaime served his country as a brave paratrooper in the U.S. Army. But that’s just the beginning of his many accomplishments.
He’s the founder of the renowned Bottleneck Distant Assistant Services firm, and his book “Quit Repeating Yourself” has become a must-read for entrepreneurs everywhere.
When he’s not busy building his empire, you can find him on his beloved Harley Davidson, cruising through the countryside and taking in the invigorating effects of Uitwaaien – a Dutch practice that involves facing the wind to boost health and relieve stress. He enjoys spending his free time outside building stuff with his wife, Nikita the dog and their two kittens (for now at least) Tommy and Tater. He is ‘over-the-moon’ happily married to his wonderful wife Sara, his amazing daughter, Jessica, who is serving our country as a United States Army soldier. Jaime and Sara are the proud grand parents of two beautiful little girls.
