Getting Things Done | A Week in Review with Jaime and Sara
What does it mean to get things done? How can we prioritize and set the right mindset in order to achieve our daily goals?
In today’s A Week In Review with Jamie and Sara, we dive into the underlying theme that is getting things done. Together, they give their own definitions of getting things done, updates and the challenges they faced this week, and what they did to overcome it.
Getting Things Done
Sara and Jaime discuss their personal definitions of what it means to get things done. Sara defines this as something she has learned from her stepdad, which is building something on time and on budget for success. Jamie, on the other hand, defines this as a mantra to keep moving forward and steering away from procrastination.
Although this may seem challenging, it is a matter of prioritizing and setting up for your business’ or personal success.
“Getting things done and procrastination, I think go hand in hand together. One of the things I continue to challenge myself on is to get things done a lot sooner. So getting things done, for me, adds to anxiety and all of these different things because I know I’m still far from that goal. How do I close that gap? I like to think of a way to do it, little bit by little bit every day. Taking little sized chunks and moving towards that goal every day, instead of waiting to do one whole block of something.” – Jaime Jay
Setting Yourself Up for Success
Sara shares how having the right mindset and schedule has helped in creating better workflow and accomplish projects. Their company agenda has assisted both of them, as well as their team, to be more productive and monitor the tasks needed to be done throughout the day. Sara and Jamie encourage the thought of precision, accuracy, and if there is a certain need of perfection when it comes to life or business goals.
In reminder, communication is an important factor in setting oneself up for success and achieving one’s goals.
“I found having our company agenda works better than a calendar because it’s hard to put everything into a calendar. You don’t know exactly how long things are going to take. One thing I learned from my stepdad is knowing how much time you have to dedicate to a project and what degree of perfection does that project need to be done? He said to set yourself a time limit. If you can get away with it not being perfect, then that’s what you do. If it has to be absolutely perfect. You’re going to have to dedicate more time to it. It takes some work and planning.” – Sara Knox
Challenges in Workflow Systems
Workflows systems processes are living and breathing aspects of your business that constantly need to be updated, but build a stable foundation for your business. They dive into some of the challenges they have encountered this week with customer service, banking, and communicating with clients.
Jamie also discusses the struggles with hiring and how Bottleneck can help provide clients with distant assistants (DA) that can accomplish 75% of tasks and 25% of the magic, beyond resumes, that they can bring.
“ We say here at Bottleneck, we’re going to provide somebody for you that’s going to provide 75% of the task that you want them to complete. Then you can explore other ways that the additional 25% can benefit you in that role. There’s oftentimes somethings you don’t see on a resume, or in their first introductory call, or anything like that. You may not see what they really excel at and what they’re good at. Take that 25% and that will come in as the relationship builds.” – Jaime Jay
