Who is Elizabeth Dodson?

Elizabeth started out in the commercial construction technology space at Baltimore. She met some gentlemen that started what happened to be at the time the world’s leading commercial construction project management software.

“If you think about all the large buildings, they require a project process to manage them. And part of that process was using really great tech to stay on top of everything.

So I met the gentleman that owned that company, it was called meridian systems. They then recruited me to come work for their company in Sacramento which i did along with many other people and we grew this company to be that world leader.” – Elizabeth Dodson

After growing the company, they sold it to a publicly-traded company, where Elizabeth ended up working for, and eventually meeting two co-workers which she started HomeZada with.

Change is Inevitable

During her time at Meridian Systems, Elizabeth had two houses, both in Baltimore and Sacramento. She shares that she was always getting frustrated about managing and maintaining both houses, and was thinking if there was a better way to do so.

Fast forward a few years later, and she founded HomeZada with a couple of co-workers. They idea of the home management software was very similar to their approach in their previous project management to construction professional job sites.

One of the things that Elizabeth learned over the years on working with software, is that change is okay. What you may have set out to do at first may not always be the final output you end up with. She then shares a story about the changes they had to make with their software, and how it turned out for the better.

“We had a user interface that was fabulous but it really wasn’t conducive to who our audience ended up being. So we went back in and changed the user interface to represent our entire audience profile.

So remember that when people are trying to build companies and products, that change is inevitable, and you want to make sure that you have the flexibility to do that.” – Elizabeth Dodson
