Melissa Turner is an influencer and dental advisor, among other things. She is the Chief Hygiene Officer for Cellerant Consulting, and also the co-founder of the National Mobile Teledentistry Conference.
Sonya Dunbar is a Registered Dental Hygienist, a national public speaker, and an entrepreneur. She is also a Key Opinion Leader on culture and diversity for Crest and Oral-B.

Who are Melissa Turner and Sonya Dunbar?
Melissa Turner has several titles. She is a BASDH, RDHEP, and an EFDA. She is also an award-winning thought leader and a nationally-published author and speaker. She is the creator of the I Heart Dentistry Network, a podcast host, and has a popular Instagram account, where she is known affectionately as @thetoothgirl.
Sonya Dunbar is known as the Geriatric Toothfairy. She is a TEDx and national public speaker with over 28 years of dental experience. She has extensive knowledge in private practice, skilled nursing facilities, and academia. Sonya is also a successful cultural diversity workplace coach. Her job is to increase cultural awareness, knowledge, and communication through interactive educational workshops. She is also a known philanthropist.
The Future of Dental Practice
Melissa and Sonya are all about revolutionizing dentistry. Where once it was a practice they execute in clinics, where their patients visit, now, the clinics are visiting the patients.
They are in agreement that the future of dentistry lie in teledentistry and mobile dentistry. It’s those dentists who think outside of the box, out of the “brick and mortar practice” of dentistry that are able to create and execute mobile and teledentistry.

Creating an Entire New World of Dentistry
Melissa and Sonya encourage practicing and new dentists to think outside of the box. Whether it’s opening up a private consultation online for patients, or having a roving clinic, it’s all about innovation.
Sonya explains the difference between mobile and teledentistry, and what it means is mobile dentistry is bringing the clinic to the patients house. With teledentistry, a dentist can conduct an exam virtually, and make a diagnosis on the patient.
Since more and more people are choosing not to go out of their houses and rely on telehealthcare, Sonya and Melissa are actually catching up.
Telehealthcare has been around for a long time, even before the pandemic. This just means that these dentists’ efforts to normalize mobile and teledentistry is giving more people more options to take care of their health.
Dentistry has always had a traditional practice, and Melissa and Sonya are changing that, allowing other dental practitioners to reach their patients beyond the clinics.
