Who is Gabe Nelson?
Gabe has actually been on the podcast before, way back in 2020. Check it out if you would like to learn more on how you can have a more profitable Solo Business.
Gabe responds that a lot has happened since 2020. His podcast, Solopreneur Money, has grown a lot these past couple of years. Also, he has a new book out called The Solopreneur’s Money Manifesto.
Gabe then shares that he might not have started the book this early, had the pandemic not happened. To him, sitting down and writing his book was a way for him to cope and deal with the trauma that this current pandemic gave him. That said, he is glad that everything is starting to settle down, and that businesses and finances are starting to recover.
Seeing the Great Resignation from a Mile Away
Jaime shares that he himself has published a book recently. Though according to him, the purpose for writing the book seems to have shifted as he made progress on it. Jaime asks Gabe if it was the same for him.
Gabe replies that he had a clear idea of what he wanted to write about, and the inspiration for it came from his interaction with clients and how they behaved afterwards. That is, a lot of them have been displaying the Great Resignation patterns, even before the current Great Resignation started happening.
“I don’t know how I saw this coming, but I just did from working with my clients. And I realized that was where the fun was and I thought, well, there’s going to be a lot of people making this change to go on their own. I want to have a book out there that someone could pick up and go, “Alright, if I’m going to do this myself, here’s a great how-to guide on to go through and master my finances.” – Gabe Nelson
How Gabe Nelson became a Solopreneur
Gabe shares that he started out in the insurance and financial services business right out of college. He thought that he would eventually take on the role of a manager and lead his company, but things did not turn as he had first envisioned.
“I thought I wanted to be this great manager with a big insurance and financial services company, when I found out I suck as a manager, in simple terms. It was in 2008 when it was like, it’s time to start my own firm. So that was the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey.” – Gabe Nelson
It was quite challenging at first for Gabe. In the previous company, you can be entrepreneurial, but you did not have to worry about a lot of things, like systems and the technology you need to use, or even the lease of your office. As a solo business owner, you have to decide everything, and it can be overwhelming at times.

Bio
With almost three decades in the financial services industry and more than a decade as an independent small business owner, Gabe Nelson already had an established thriving practice and solid reputation in his industry when he recognized an interesting trend among some of his favorite clients.
More and more, he found himself working with self-employed professionals and solo-entrepreneurs. And as a business owner himself, he was fired up about helping them navigate the unique challenges they were facing – because he was just like them.
He understood that independent professionals have specific needs. Most financial advisors don’t know exactly what it takes to transition from employee to independent contractor status or establish long-term financial security without relying on a regular paycheck.
He also knew that with more of the workforce becoming self-employed every day, more people could benefit from working with an advisor who knows how to plan for the whole financial picture, including legal, estate, financial, retirement, life, disability, and more — with an entrepreneurial spirit.
So he took his passion for providing a personal touch with hands-on problem-solving and solution-oriented comprehensive planning and decided to focus on serving solo- entrepreneurs.
Gabe is the bestselling author of The Solopreneur’s Money Manifesto: How to Master Your Finances and Create the Life You Want and hosts the popular podcast: Solopreneur Money.

He’s the founder of the renowned Bottleneck Distant Assistant Services firm, and his book “Quit Repeating Yourself” has become a must-read for entrepreneurs everywhere.
When he’s not busy building his empire, you can find him on his beloved Harley Davidson, cruising through the countryside and taking in the invigorating effects of Uitwaaien – a Dutch practice that involves facing the wind to boost health and relieve stress. He enjoys spending his free time outside building stuff with his wife, Nikita the dog and their two kittens (for now at least) Tommy and Tater. He is ‘over-the-moon’ happily married to his wonderful wife Sara, his amazing daughter, Jessica, who is serving our country as a United States Army soldier.
