Bridging the Age Gap

Cross-Generational Conversation in the Workplace | Phyllis Weiss Haserot 038

Phyllis is the cross-generational voice that unites the older generation of workers to the younger ones. She urges them to know more about their peers and to learn from their differences. As she says, it is not always a generational issue; every person comes with a unique background.

She has written for Forbes, Next Avenue, LinkedIn Pulse and Legal Executive Institute on topics about intergenerational relations. She has also worked with organizations to retain top talent and clients.

Her book, You Can’t Google It! The Compelling Case for Cross-Generational Conversation at Work, unravels the dynamics of multi-generational teams.

The Need for Conversations

According to Phyllis, workplace interaction plays a crucial role in getting things done. It is a characteristic usually found in effective organizations. There are patterns in communication and trends in what people do.

“The management is usually thinking that they are articulating their expectations. But when you are talking to each other and you ask everybody else, that’s not exactly so clear.” – Phyllis Weiss Haserot

Two Words for the Teams

Phyllis tells about two significant words, namely gengagement and collaborages. Gengagement is about getting other generations to understand each person’s work and what’s really going on.

“There isn’t adequate orientation when people start to work.” – Phyllis Weiss Haserot

The second word, collaborages, is about getting all generations together to confront and combat ageism. It is an issue faced by both the young and the old generations.

About Jaime Jay

Meet Jaime Jay – a man who wears many hats, and wears them all admirably. He's a master connector, an entrepreneur extraordinaire, and a published author who knows how to get things done.

Before he found his way to the business world, Jaime served his country as a brave paratrooper in the U.S. Army. But that's just the beginning of his many accomplishments.

He's the founder of the renowned Bottleneck Distant Assistant Services firm, and his book "Quit Repeating Yourself" has become a must-read for entrepreneurs everywhere.

When he's not busy building his empire, you can find him on his beloved Harley Davidson, cruising through the countryside and taking in the invigorating effects of Uitwaaien – a Dutch practice that involves facing the wind to boost health and relieve stress.

He enjoys spending his free time outside building stuff with his wife, Nikita the dog and their two kittens (for now at least) Tommy and Tater.

He is ‘over-the-moon’ happily married to his wonderful wife Sara, his amazing daughter, Jessica, who is serving our country as a United States Army soldier. Jaime and Sara are the proud grand parents of two beautiful little girls.
